How Detailed Note and the Study Guard browser extension collect, use, and protect your information.
Overview
Detailed Note (“we,” “us,” or “our”) provides a note-taking and study platform at detailednote.app, including the Study Guard Chrome extension. This policy describes what information we collect, why we collect it, and the choices you have.
We design Study Guard so that website content is read or sent only when you explicitly choose to save something. We do not sell your personal information.

Account information
When you create an account, we collect information such as your email address and display name.
- Sign-in credentials managed through our authentication provider
- Profile and settings you choose to save in the app
- Content you upload or create, including notes, sources, chats, and files
Usage and technical data
We may collect standard service data needed to operate the product, such as device and browser type, approximate region derived from IP address, and error or performance logs.
Study Guard extension
Study Guard is optional. It works with your Detailed Note account to block distracting sites during focus sessions and to send web content into your notes when you ask it to.
Stored locally on your device
- Your block list and session timer settings
- Active session state
- Linked account email and connection token
Sent to Detailed Note when you take action
- Page text, selected text, YouTube video references, or screenshots you choose to save
- Basic extension activity events such as session started, session stopped, or content saved
- Account link and unlink requests
What Study Guard does not collect
- A browsing history log of sites you visit
- Keystroke, mouse, scroll, or general activity monitoring
- Background reading of page content without your explicit save action
Site blocking
During an active focus session, Study Guard checks whether the current tab matches sites on your block list and redirects blocked pages locally. That check happens on your device. We do not receive a history of every page you visit.
How we use data
- Provide, maintain, and improve Detailed Note and Study Guard
- Authenticate you and keep your account secure
- Store and organize the content you choose to save
- Run focus sessions and site blocking according to your settings
- Send service-related messages such as account or security notices
- Diagnose errors and protect against abuse
Retention and security
We retain account and content data while your account is active and as needed to provide the service, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce agreements.
Study Guard settings stored in your browser remain until you remove them or uninstall the extension. We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures to protect information, but no method of transmission or storage is completely secure.
Your choices
- Access and update account information in Detailed Note settings
- Unlink Study Guard from your account in the extension or on the account link page
- Remove blocked sites, stop sessions, or uninstall the extension at any time
- Contact us to request deletion of your account, subject to legal retention requirements
Children
Detailed Note is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.
Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Updated” date at the top of this page. Material changes may also be communicated through the product or by email where appropriate.
